'അഗ്നിയാവുക നമ്മൾ'

1991ൽ മാവേലിക്കര ബിഷപ് മൂർ കോളജിൽ പ്രൊഫ. എ.വി. ഇട്ടി പ്രസിഡൻ്റായി നടത്തിയ മാർതോമാ സ്റ്റുഡൻസ് കോൺഫ്രൻസിൻ്റെ പ്രധാന ചിന്താവിഷയം 'Come Holy Spirit and Renew the Whole Creation' എന്നതായിരുന്നു. അത് വേൾഡ് കൗൺസിൽ ഓഫ് ചർച്ചസിൻ്റെ (WCC ) ആ വർഷത്തെ സമ്മേളനത്തിൻ്റെ പ്രധാന ചിന്താവിഷയവുമായിരുന്നു.

ജീവൻ നൽകുന്ന ദൈവമേ- സൃഷ്ടിയെ നിലനിർത്തുക, സത്യത്തിൻ്റെ ആത്മാവേ - ഞങ്ങളെ സ്വതന്ത്രരാക്കുക, ഐക്യത്തിൻ്റെ ആത്മാവേ - ജനത്തെ അനുരഞ്ജിപ്പിക്കുക, പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവേ- ഞങ്ങളെ രൂപാന്തരപ്പെടുത്തി വിശുദ്ധീകരിക്കുക എന്നിവയായിരുന്നു WCC അസംബ്ലിയുടെ നാല് സബ്തീമുകൾ.

1980 - 90 കൾ സഭകളിലേയും രാഷ്ട്രങ്ങളിലെയും പൗരസമൂഹങ്ങൾ അതിരുകളേയും വിശ്വാസങ്ങളേയും മറികടന്ന് ഐക്യത്തിനും സാഹോദര്യത്തിനും വേണ്ടി കൈകോർത്തു പിടിച്ച കാലഘട്ടമായിരുന്നു. അതിനോട് സമരസപ്പെട്ടുകൊണ്ട് ഭൂമിയിലെ ജീവൻ സംരക്ഷിക്കാൻ ഒരു പുതിയ ആത്മീയത ആവശ്യമാണെന്ന് സമ്മേളനം പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു.എല്ലാ സൃഷ്ടിയുടെയും ഐക്യം ലക്ഷമാക്കിക്കൊണ്ട് ആഗോള പരസ്പര ആശ്രയത്വത്തെ അടിസ്ഥാനമാക്കിയുള്ള ഒരു പുതിയ ആത്മീയത. പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവിൻ്റ ചലനാത്മക ശക്തിയിലടിസ്ഥാനപ്പെട്ട അത്തരമൊരു ആത്മീയത പ്രാദേശിക തലങ്ങളിൽ ഉയർന്നുവരണമെന്നും മനുഷ്യകുടുംബത്തിൻ്റെ ഒരുമയ്ക്കും നീതിക്കും സമാധാനത്തിനും സൃഷ്ടിയുടെ സൗഖ്യത്തിനും പ്രതിജ്ഞാബദ്ധരായ കമ്മ്യൂണിറ്റികളെ രൂപപ്പെടുത്തുവാൻ സഭ ഇപ്രകാരം മുന്നിട്ടിറങ്ങണമെന്നും സമ്മേളനം ആഹ്വാനം ഉയർത്തി.

4 പൂർണ ദിവസങ്ങളിലായി നടന്ന സ്റ്റുഡൻ്റസ് കോൺഫ്രൻസ് ആനുകാലിക സാമൂഹ്യ,രാഷ്ട്രീയ വിഷയങ്ങൾ പഠിക്കുകയും അതിനോടു ക്രിയാത്മകമായി പ്രതികരിക്കുകയും, ചെയ്തിരുന്നു. അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര വേദികളിൽ മുഴങ്ങിക്കേട്ട നൂതന ചിന്താധാരകളുടെ വക്താക്കളായിരുന്നു സ്റ്റുഡൻ്റസ് കോൺഫ്രൻസ് നയിച്ചിരുന്നത്. 4 ദിവസങ്ങളിലേയും വർഷിപ്പ് തയ്യാറാക്കിയത് റവ. പി.ജെ വർഗീസും ഞാനും ചേർന്നായിരുന്നു.

അഗ്നിനാവുകൾ പോലെ വെളിപ്പെട്ട പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവിൻ്റെ പ്രവർത്തനം വേർതിരിവുകളെ ഉല്ലംഘിയ്ക്കുന്ന ആശയവിനിമയവും ദൈവരാജ്യത്തിൻ്റെ പുത്തൻ പതിപ്പായ നവസമൂഹസൃഷ്ടിയും സാധ്യമാക്കിത്തീർത്തു എന്നു അപ്പോസ്തോല പ്രവർത്തികളിൽ രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു. ഈ ദൈവശാസ്ത്രസത്യം ആവിഷ്ക്കരിയ്ക്കുന്നതിനായിട്ടാണ് അഗ്നിയാവുക എന്ന ഗാനം എഴുതിയത്.ഓരോ വർഷിപ്പിൻ്റേയും സമാപനത്തിലുള്ള സമർപ്പണ പ്രഖ്യാപനമായി ഗാനത്തിൻ്റെ കോറസ് ഉപയോഗിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.മാർത്തോമ്മാ സ്റ്റുഡൻ്റ്സ് കോൺഫറൻസ് സംവാദങ്ങളുടെയും ബദലന്വേഷണങ്ങളുടെയും കൂടി വേദിയായിരുന്ന ഒരു കാലത്തിൻ്റെ ശേഷിപ്പായി ഈ ഗാനത്തെ കാണാം.

കൂട്ടായ്മയുടെയും ഒന്നിച്ചുള്ള പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളുടെയും ഊഷ്മളതയിൽ പിറന്നുവീണ ഒരു ഗാനം കൂടിയാണ് അഗ്നിയാവുക നമ്മൾ.

About The Lyricist

Vinod Koshy
Vinod Koshy hails from Kumpalampoika, a village about 8 kilometres from Pathanamthitta town in the eastern district of Pathanamthitta, in Kerala at the foothills of The Western Ghats, very close to the Sabarimala range of mountains in the south of India. Both his parents, MV Thankamma and MJ Koshy, were teachers. Vinod is their second child. He has an elder and a younger sister (Vincy and Vineetha). Vinod’s family has been long term inhabitants of the village and devout Christians of the Marthoma church. Vinod became a critic of the mainstream conservative outlook of the church since his younger, student days. Since his involvement in the day-to-day activities of the youth movement in the church (Marthoma Yuvajana Sakhyam), he has been known for providing constructive opposition to the populist and mediocre worldview handed down by the church on issues concerning most ordinary parishioners. He believed in the people-centric approach of Jesus Christ and kept arguing that the `Christ path and mission’ is not the majority interest of the church. This often brought him in conflict with the conservative elders in the society and church.
Vinod’s early influences in Kerala include his association with Naveekarana Vedi (a reformist initiative within the Marthoma Church), Janakeeya Vimochana Viswasa Prasthanam (people’s movement for faith & liberation - formed within the CSI church), Dynamic Action and PSA (Programme for Social Action, an important national network of action groups initiated by visionaries like Dr. MM Thomas). Along with active involvement in the ecumenical bodies, Vinod became a regular member of Student Federation of India (SFI) during his Pre-Degree and bachelor studies. The work among students on this secular platform helped him spread his wings through various networks of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) later. For the last three decades, he has been an active part of the regional decision-making bodies of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), Karshaka Sanghom and other mass organisations of left political orientation. 

The turning point in Vinod’s youth life and exposure was the invitation to full-time work with AWAZ in Chhattisgarh (then part of Madhya Pradesh) and Odisha (he worked with his base in Kalahandi). He got to blend his progressive Christian faith and social analysis with the ground realities of the Dalit and Adivasi population of these extremely backward regions of India. He came into contact with pioneering independent Trade Unions like the Chhattisgarh Mukti Morcha as well as groups like Rupantar, Bandhua Mukti Morcha, PUCL and Jan Jagriti Kendra. Progressive association with legendary leaders like Shankar Guha Niyogi on the one hand, Ilina Sen of the autonomous women’s movement and working under the pastoral guidance of Adv Cyrus of the AWAZ on the other, brought a certain clarity for Vinod into the political thought process of social action. He was part of the cultural awakening movement through street theatre and songs as well as the literacy movement and library initiatives. The life in Kalahandi (Odisha) and Gathapara and Rajnandgaon (Chattisgarh) radically altered the life vision of Vinod. 

Once back home, he was part of local self-government and the cooperative movement in his village. He continued his engagements with the civil society initiatives even while he took up a very different employment profile as a sales manager in the vehicle retail industry. Vinod’s life partner is Sobha Rachel Joseph, his comrade in social and political action during student days. Sobha works in the Department of Education. They have two children, Nikhil an animation artist and Nirmal, a musician.

Vinod continues to be a co-traveller of the Dynamic Action group that spearheaded cultural action for political resistance along with various people’s movements in Kerala, for the last close to four decades. His association with PSA and national movement alliances like the NAPM, Delhi Forum, Kerala Swatantra Matsya Thozhilali Federation (KSMTF), Thiruvallla Sangham, The Ecumenical Charitable Trust and Pennamma Bhavanam continue amidst his support to many environmental and human .
 

About The Composer

Santhosh George Joseph
Lyricist, music composer and music teacher. 

He has written composed around 300 songs both devotional and secular.
 
He has brought out music Albums Padamonnai, (Producer: Santhosh George) Poomazhayayi (Producer: Noble John) and Jeevadhara (Producer: Abraham Parangot). Many of his songs are published in the song books Padamonnai by Kristhava Sahithya Samithi and Janakeeya Ganangal by Dynamic Action.

Educational Qualification: MSc Communication Studies, Madurai Kamaraj University and MA English Literature, Kerala University .

Worked in Chattisgarh focusing on people’s theatre and organised a theatre group Lok Sanskritik Manch along with Shankar Mahanand. Worked as the Communication Secretary of Student Christian Movement of India, Bangalore, Programme Coordinator of the Thiruvalla Sanghom, Founder and Coordinator of Mediact, (Media Education for Awareness and Cultural Transformation) Thiruvananthapuram and Catalyst of kanthari International Institute of Social Entrepreneurs., Thiruvananthapuram. At present he is working as the director of Resonance School of Music, Thiruvananthapuram teaching western vocal music.

He is married to Suneela Jeyakumar who is working as an officer at Life Insurance Corporation of India, Thiruvananthapuram. He has three children Sangeeth, Ameya and Shreya.
